Pedagogy or Curriculium?

How is it?
It has not been in my psyche to think and talk and write about pedagogy. Yet the more I read on this topic the more inquisitive I become. Pedagogy is starting to make sense and become a foci.
So what then does pedagogy mean to me? Well I think pedagogy is firmly behind the theory, practice, science and even the art of learning and teaching.

Reflections on social learning technologies (slt)

How is it?
Seeing the whole is a far different experience than seeing the hole.
Having time to construct a meaning full whole, has for me taken a long time. To allow myself time to reflect on this, in the past has been, what I perceived then as a waste of my time. Why is this so I'm wondering now as I reflect back on the past? Ignorance or perhaps something else, at this time I'm not too sure about this, but I'm thinking about it. But I have an inkling.
I have finished reading this morning a discussion paper on Pedagogy the key issue in education.
Written by Nicholas Abbey in May 2003. This paper is in two parts.
There were several topics/areas that he described in words for me so that I could make meaning/understand.
So why did he write in this way? Surely I'm not the only person who's been struggling through the fog? In fact after reading this paper I now know I'm not alone here. Being as bold to say that many of the people I know are still trapped in the fog, but chose not to remove themselves from its clutches.

I need to invest time in learning how to use easybib for referencing articals. this is a "to do".

The answers were these: The more a teacher can emphasize . . .

  • learner independence and choice

  • intrinsic motivators and natural curiosity

  • rich, timely, usable feedback coupled with occasions for reflection and

  • active involvement in real-world tasks

  • emphasizing higher-order abilities

  • done with other people in high-challenge, low-threat environments

  • that provide for practice and reinforcement
. . . the greater the chances he or she will realize the deep learning that makes a difference in student lives.

Modeling the Living Curriculium

How is it team?
An exampler, well I think it is anyway!

In the past one of the tasks has been to draw a fuel tank in 3rd angle ortho, as well as an iso view. Then print this off. Easy Pezzy.
What learning happened? Well....

Today the students, CAT, day 5, are drawing in AutoCAD. Same task but from another approach... I was thinking what a fuel tank might look like in the Wilson 8M ?
Have taken a video in class of the students at the start, perhaps 8 mins ago. Will insert this here at a later date.
Question?
Is there any way of copy from one lay out to an other?

Yes but.... are you working on the read only or... No the read only... Is that smart or... Saved as... this conversation went on for a while until the student had established meaning.. I questioned, challenged but at no time gave what I thought correct was, rather they constructed this meaning...
Question... Anyone stuck? No reply

Q do you want us to take it from a particular station? What are the CI at the tank area(me)?
Are these different to the lines and the boat?

Inquiry
Collaboration

I look around and the students are fully engaged in learning..... what sort of learning?

Easy or hard?

Hard.
Have you measured the boat?

Conversation

Welcome Benny we missed you this morning. Yeah. I've been a bit sick lately. Are you happy with coming in late? No I've been thinking about that a bit.... Hey I recond you have the ability to easily catch up. Yeah? yeah. OK and he turned to his machine and got into it.

Not putting any pressure on but how long have you got to go? time.....

I've given an overview, set the rules(these are broad) Explained on A1 paper. Took them down to the workshop and showed location in the boat. Then said go.

Would be a good thing to have another videoing live and blogging as I find doing this at the same time stiffles my creativity. Get over it dude!

Q Hey Chris(from Benny) my numbers are very very very small how can I change that? Hold on for a sec?....
2 options here 1 is to show and tell or the other ... a gather round team... so we talked about the problem as a team... Some of the team had experienced the problem before, and found the solution and other had not experienced... yet...

Conclusion:

So all in all I'm of the belief that this meeting has been a great waste of time......
Run well by the two new girls, but sadly let down by an orchistrated disengagement of a majority of dumb staff. I mensioned dumb several times in the meeting.. how dumb are we? So we allow ourselves to be servant to the same old structure that keeps us well in control.

Problem solving in groups

How is it team? ( Complexity theory ) (more on this at another time but an excellent theory)
I'm also, while blogging, at the same time try to master the EasyBib for citing works read. Although this is proving harder than I first thought.
When blogging occurs, the slate is clean and an idea/s or concern/s comes to mind. The beauty of these ideas or concerns, which only exsist if they are in writing. One of which is below. The structure of this blog may seem chaotic and full of ambiguity, yet from this complexity learning is at the fore-front.
We have been asked, or should I say reminded, to blog on our readings, which to me makes some sense, but what makes more sense is have a reason or purpose for reading. Having a list of given readings may be one thing, but as a believer in the newly established living curriculium, which aspires to promote seven core principles: Conversation, Curiosity/Inquiry, Collaboration, Self-Afficacy, Problem-Solving, Creativity, Reflection, then this raises for me a few queries/concerns.

See the link below.

On each one of these I have created a blog, to help me make sense of this reading, doing this using the pages concept in blogger.
Bifurcation?
We are about to embark on a new course, Small Craft Design, which has two learning outcomes.

1

Create from a given plan a small craft

2

Develop an effective team environment

For many years now having a smaller number of learning outcomes has been a goal of mine.
The number, in some courses these are as high as 13, is not a measure of student capabilities, rather, I think, a measure of lack of understanding, in the part of the course designer. The topics, of this course, are what can "fleshout" the learning outcomes. Also the learning that takes place during this course, remembering that learning takes time, so another goal of mine has been to allow this to happen. The timetable may drive when curtain things in a course may happen, this can be because of a number of factors, for instance: the availablity of workshops; specific classrooms... but what the timetable does not necessarily allow for in many cases is the occurance of learning.

How is it ?
Will do a few tests on this page. Out there tests for me.
Good being able to save as a draft again. This function was not as in your face as VOX. Also like the preview.
Need to sort out if I can also work in groups.
Can I also transfere others over?
